Van Long Natural Reserve

Van Long Natural Reserve is located in Gia Van Commune, Gia Vien District, far about 17 kilometers from Ninh Binh City center to the Northeast. It is one of three special-use forests in Ninh Binh and in the system of more than 100 special-use forests in Vietnam.

With an area of nearly 3.500 hectares, Van Long is the largest wetland nature reserve in Northern Delta. Thousands of faunas and floras are living this place, notably primate Delacour’s langur that is at risk of extinction in the world.

Visiting Van Long, tourists will have feelings about a bay without wave because when going on a boat, you can see a flat surface like a big mirror clearing out the moss layers below. You need about 1 hour sitting on the boat to pass through ravines and admire the tall grass in both side. Van Long has over 30 beautiful caves, of which many are tourist destination such as Fish Grotto, Goby Grotto, Turtle Grotto, Lemon Grotto. There are several limestone mountains which were named as its looks: Meo Cao, Mam Xoi, Hom Sach, Da Ban, etc. Coming to Van Long natural reserve, tourists can’t help visiting the600-years-olddiospyros decandra, Chi Le Temple, Mai Trung Temple, Dich Long cave, historic relic of Dinh Tien Hoang, etc.

Van Long attracts tourist by the natural beauty and the secluded, quiet atmosphere so when you come here, you should not talk and laugh loudly. If you love to take picture, you should tell the ferry man to help you visit all destination in Van Long.
