Dich Long Cave and Pagoda

Dich Long Cave and Pagoda is located in Gia Thanh Hamlet, Gia Vien District, Ninh Binh Province, near the National Highway 1A. The name Dich Long means the flute’s sound.

It’s also called Hang Pagoda, Nham Son Cave or Do Am Pagoda. Its legendary that the cave was found out in 1739 by a woodcutter. He created an altar after sawing stalactites that look like buddha inside the cave. In 1740, the Pagoda was established.

Tourist coming to Dich Long will be surprised by a large number of unique architectures: temple for worshipping Ly Quoc Su, crescent lake, 5 three-storey tower and 3 lower temple.Especially, there are 3 statues of Buddha which have historical value.

From the main pagoda, continued to climb 105 stone steps will add to the cave divided into 3 area: the Budhha-worshipping cave, the Dark cave and the Light cave. Many stalactites that look like the sacred animals changing in light such as dragons, elephants,... have strongly impressed visitors coming here.

Today, the relic is a place for cultural and religious activities and wonderful festivals full of national identity. Dich Long Cave and Pagoda was recognized as national historical-cutulral relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism now) in 1990.
